The charity to honor Children’s Dental Health Month February, for the years of 2009 and 2010 is the Village for Children and Families, located in Hartford, CT.

The Board of the CSPD chose to support this cause because of the invaluable services they provide.  The Village is an organization dedicated to helping children and families in need.  According to their Director:

“Before the Village for Families and Children was founded in 1809, children with no families were left on the streets to fend for themselves.  The Village was the first agency in Hartford, and one of the first nationwide, to provide homes for neglected children.  Two centuries later, the Village continues its work, helping families and touching the lives of over 6,000 children, women, and men annually.

At the Village, we strive to build a community of strong, healthy families who protect and nurture children.  We achieve our mission when we help children achieve academic and social success, place children in safe and permanent homes, help parents succeed with effective parenting skills, and help families prevent and manage crises.  The Village offers a continuum of services designed to help families build on existing strengths.  Permanency programs include residential programs, therapeutic foster care, therapeutic mentoring, and intensive family preservation.  Treatment programs include outpatient children’s mental health services, extended day treatment programs for children, and residential treatment programs.  Family and community support services include employment support, family financial literacy, a common sense parenting program, parent support programs, and school-based programs in 13 area schools.”
